Vernay Moving and Storage was established in 1903 by William J. Vernay. The company originally started as a taxi company and delivery service in Paterson, New Jersey, which is an industrial town known for their silk mills and the manufacture of locomotives.

In 1946 William J. Vernay, Jr. returned from the war and took over the operation. During his years as the owner, he noticed the high demand for quality moving services. As the industry grew, so did Vernay Moving and Storage.

Small local companies started grouping together with individually owned and operated companies in other states, thus forming nationwide networks. This organization enabled the local mover to improve the quality and scope of services it provided the public.

Changing with the Times

William E. Vernay grew up in the family business and took over operations in 1964. During that time, America was becoming more mobile. People were leaving their hometowns and heading off to parts unknown.

The times were changing, and our moving and storage company was changing with them. We purchased new equipment and expanded our facilities. Vernay Moving and Storage is currently operating under the care and management of a 3rd and 4th generation of the Vernay family. We have purchased new equipment and the changes were constant, we kept the old values in mind—to always be a fair and honest mover.
